Restoring the Sunroom Garden Storage Doors – DIY Tips
Restoring the sunroom’s garden storage doors was a DIY project that breathed new life into this cozy, shaded space. The original wooden doors had seen better days and were in serious disrepair, with chipped paint, rusted hinges, and warped panels that made them difficult to open and close. I restored the doors and found new period appropriate hardware.
First, the old paint was stripped away, then the panels were taken apart, refinished, and reassembled. A white enamel was applied, ensuring the doors will stand up to the elements for years to come. New hand-forged iron hinges complete the transformation ensuring smooth, effortless operation.
These newly restored doors not only look stunning but also function flawlessly. This project not only enhances the exterior’s visual appeal but also restores its charm and character, making it an even more inviting and enjoyable space to relax and unwind.
A day trip to Lititz led me to the Antique’s Loft at Sylvan Brandt. I found a tiny primitive table and a bunch of antique hardware, including a hand forged latch for the garden storage doors. After removing the rust, the latch was restored and installed. Find out more about the antique metal latch here.
